NEW RICHMOD - Mrs. L. Straughn Hockett, former resident of the New Richmond community, died at 4 a.m. Wednesday in a Paducah, Ky. hospital. Mrs. Hockett, 64, was admitted to the hospital 12 hours before her death. The deceased had resided in Gilbertsville, Ky., for the last 10 years. Her husband, O. L. Hockett, survives. Mr. Hockett's brother died within a few hours of his wife's death. Born on March 23, 1904, in Parke County, she was the daughter of Frank and Florence Simms. Her marriage to Mr. Hockett was solemnized in October of 1934 at Danville, Ill. Mrs. Hockett received her education in the schools of Montgomery and Parke counties. Surviving besides the husband are two stepsons, William Hockett of New Richmond and Roy of Cedar Lake; a brother, Bruce Simms of Crawfordsville; a grandson, and four great-grandchildren. Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday in the Helms Funeral Home at Linden with Rev. Arthur Schenck officiating. Burial will be in Waynetown Masonic Cemetery.
